Frequently Asked Questions

Get quick answers to our most frequently asked questions.

Can I reuse the syringe?

Tily Blooms syringes and collection cups are designed for single use only. Reusing them can compromise both hygiene and performance — the rubber plunger may lose its seal, and the light medical-grade coating that ensures smooth movement can wear off after washing. For your safety and to maximise effectiveness, each kit includes two syringes and two collection cups, giving you more than one opportunity to try without compromising quality.

How many attempts should I plan for?

Fertility specialists typically recommend trying for 3 to 6 cycles, as conception can take time even under ideal conditions. If you haven’t conceived after six cycles, we suggest speaking with your GP or fertility specialist to explore your next steps.

Can I use Tily Blooms with both fresh and frozen sperm?

Absolutely! Our syringes are suitable for use with both fresh and thawed cryogenically frozen sperm (please see guidelines from sperm banks for best practice).

When should I inseminate?

For the best chance of success, inseminate during your fertile window. This is the time leading up to and including ovulation. If you're using our full kit, ovulation tests are included to help you pinpoint your most fertile days.

Do I need to wash the Tily Blooms kit before use?

No - all components of the Tily Blooms kit are individually packaged and assembled in a certified clean room, so they’re ready to use straight out of the box. In fact, washing parts with water or soap can damage sperm and reduce your chances of conception, so we strongly advise against it.

How long can sperm survive in the collection cup?

Sperm is at its most viable within the first 30 minutes of collection. However, it can remain active for up to one hour if kept at room temperature. We recommend inseminating as soon as possible after collection for optimal results.

Who is the Tily Blooms Kit for?

Tily Blooms proudly supports a diverse range of individuals and families on their path to parenthood — including heterosexual couples, LGBTQ+ couples, solo parents by choice, people using surrogates, and anyone looking for an alternative to intercourse-based conception.

However, the kit is not suitable for everyone. Please do not use the kit if:

  • You or your donor/partner has been diagnosed with azoospermia (no sperm present)
  • You do not ovulate or have blocked or absent fallopian tubes
  • You've been advised that it is unsafe for you to become pregnant
  • Either party has a sexually transmitted infection or virus, including active herpes, hepatitis, or HIV

If you're unsure about any of the above, it’s best to speak with a healthcare provider before using the kit.

How do I use the soft cervical disc?

Using the soft cervical disc can feel a bit tricky at first — you’re not alone! Like anything new, it may take a little practice. Here are a few tips to help:

  • Pinch the disc in the middle and gently slide it into the vaginal canal, angling it slightly downward and backward
  • Once inserted, tuck the front rim up behind the pubic bone to keep it in place
  • To remove, hook your finger under the front rim and gently pull it out

We’re always here to help — if you need further support or have any questions at all, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Is it normal for sperm to leak out after insemination?

Yes – it’s completely normal to see some of the sperm sample leak out after insemination.

Semen acts as the carrier fluid for sperm, and once it’s delivered the sperm near the cervix, it’s no longer needed and often exits the body naturally. This is a common and expected part of the process and doesn’t mean insemination hasn’t been successful.

During ovulation, your body also produces more cervical mucus – which is naturally quite wet. When you combine that with the sperm sample, some extra fluid is to be expected.

To help keep sperm closer to the cervix:

  • Try placing a pillow under your hips after insemination
  • Stay lying down for 30-60 minutes
  • Use a soft cervical disc to help hold the sperm in place (included in the complete Tily Blooms kit)
